2015 Scholar's Gate Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L

95 pts Wine Advocate  |  93+ Vinous  The 2015 Scholar’s Gate is opulent, serious, voluptuously textured, and layered with savory characteristics.  Ripe red and black fruit explode on the palate with more concentrated tones of boysenberry, candied raspberry, and dark chocolate. Aromatic and dense, this wine’s refreshing acidity is complimented perfectly by a powerful structure and rich, lush, tannins.

Deep, garnet-purple in appearance. Scholar’s Gate is opulent, serious, voluptuously textured, and layered with savory characteristics. Intense aromatics of blueberry compote, dried cranberry, and vanilla bean layer beautifully as earthy notes of sage, leather, and Rutherford dust emerge. Ripe red and black fruit explode on the palate with more concentrated tones of boysenberry, candied raspberry, and dark chocolate. Aromatic and dense, this wine’s refreshing acidity is complimented perfectly by a powerful structure and rich, lush, tannins. While most impressive and elegant now, this wine is worthy of cellaring for more than 15 years.

"The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Scholar's Gate, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, offers up Indian spices, fallen leaves, dusty earth and potpourri notions with a cassis and kirsch-scented core. The full-bodied palate is rich, concentrated and opulent, with velvety tannins and a long, perfumed finish." - Robert Parker, August 2017

"Round Pond's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series Scholar's Gate is dense, powerful and quite structured, but also medium in body for the year. Time in the glass brings out the wine's volume and textural depth. My impression is that the Scholar's Gate is still recovering from its recent bottling. Even so, the 2015 possesses striking density and plenty of depth. It will be interesting to see where this ends up in another 6-12 months." - Antonio Galloni, March 2018
